Morphology
Symmetry and Form
Monad, radial_symmetry, isopolar, 3-colporoidate, elliptic in equatorial_view, 3-loboid in polar_view
Dimensions
Polar_Axis = 30-32 µm; Equatorial_Axis = 21-28 µm
Apertures
3-colporoidate; Colpus: elliptic and long, colpus apex acute, distance between the adjacent colpal apices 8.0-10.0 µm, margo diffuse with piloid rodltes or clavae, aperture_membrane psilate, thin costae_colpi present; Os: ill-defined
Exine
Clavate, intectate, exine thickness (excl. sculpture) at the mid-point of the intercolpium <1.0 µm; Clavae <1. 0 x 2.5-3.0 µm. TEM of I. aquifolium (Lobreau-Callen, D. 1977: Pl. 35, fig 7) shows the clavae attached to the thin foot_layer due to the lack of tectal-columellar structure
Remark
A stenopalynous genus [see Lobreau-Callen, D., 1977)]
Tentative Pollen Typification
Ilex type
