Morphology

Symmetry and Form

Monad, radial_symmetry, isopolar, 3-porate, elliptic in equatorial_view, in polar_view nearly circular, often triangular (sinuaperturate shrunken grains).

Dimensions

Polar_Axis = 51-74 µm; Equatorial_Axis = 40-60 µm.

Apertures

Three porate; Porus: circular, diameter 7.0 µm; poral membane finely verrucate, annulus undifferentiated, poral_costae present.

Exine

2 polar_caps are separated by verrucate equatorial_belt that is subdivisible into oval porate fields surrounding pores and narrow rugulate meridional ridges or strips connecting the polar caps and separating the porate fields; tectate, infratectum columellate, exine thickness: at poles ±3.0 µm.

Remark

Sonneratia alba subtype (sensu Muller, J. 1969) Intrageneric pollen differences in the genus Sonneratia and the intraspecific pollen morphological variability of Sonneratia alba - an A-group (subtypes A to I) and a J-group (J to M subtypes) and an abortive group containing O to X subtypes - have been highlighted in Muller, J. (1969).

Tentative Pollen Typification

Sonneratia alba type.
