How to Search

The Digital Collections portal is organized hierarchically: it brings together multiple sites, and each site may contain one or more collections.

Search can be conducted either from the Home page or from the Collections page.

The portal supports searching at three levels:

1. Portal level – search across all sites and collections (using the search box on the Home page).
2. Site level – search within the content of a specific site (from the Collections page, by clicking on a site name such as Ecological Specimens, Manuscripts, etc.).
3. Collection level – search within a particular collection, in two ways:
   • By clicking on a collection name on the Home page (e.g., Herbarium, Manuscripts of the Indology Collection) and then selecting Browse the Collection.
   • From the Collections page, by clicking on the relevant collection.

Notes on searching Indic-script records in Romanized form:

• Many records include titles or terms in Indic scripts with diacritics.
• You may search without diacritics, but your spelling must follow the correct transliteration (e.g., Ramayana not Ramayan or Raamaayana).
