Śilpaśāstra (Viśvakarmā)

Copied from a paper MS belonging to Somasubrahmanya Bhattar, Swaminathaswami temple, Manamadurai, Ramnad Dt. There are 4 extra pages at the beginning, which record the title, a note and the contents. The note, which has been added by T. Ramanujan, reads as follows: "The manuscript belongs to Sri D. Somasubrahmania Bhattar, Somanathaswāmi temple, Mānāmadurai (Ramnad Dt). It is in the form of three exercise note books containing 144 pages, writter in grantha characters. There are about 20 lines per page. The hand writing is hopelessly bad, illegible in many places and full of omissious and errors. The transcript extends to 299 pages. There are about 1500 ślokas on the whole. There are 24 chapters in the manuscript. Chapters 1, 22, 23, and 24 are extracted from the Viśvakarmīya. The others are from Agastya - sakalādhikāra. The latter has a commentary in Tamil. Both the works deal with the specification of measurement (Tāla-māna) and descriptions of śaiva's images (mūrti-lakṣaṇa). The ninth chapter is incomplete. The tenth has no beginning. Probably there may be some omissions in the middle of both these chapters. (T. Ramanujan) A text of this name has been printed with the title viśvakarmavāstuśāstram, ed. K. Vasudeva Sastri & N. B.
