Miscellaneous Notes

Copied from a MS belonging to Kanakasabhesa Dikshitar, Tirunelveli. There are 4 extra pages at the beginning. The first two pages record some miscellaneous notes written in grantha and english. The next two pages record a note, written by the scribe and the contents of the text. The note reads: śaivaparibhāsāmajari
The original manuscript of Saivaparibhashamanjari belongs to sri Kanakasabhesa Dikshitar, Teppakulam St., Tirunelveli. The original palm leaves of the work having been much decayed, Sri Dikshitar has already copied it in a note book, from which I have made this copy. This work contains ten vargas and a total of 1101 slokas. The name of the author is Vedajnana deva, who lived at chidambaram about 400 years ago. This work is like a nighaṇṭu(dictionary) dealing mainly with the subjects and things that come within the range of Saiva-agama-tantras. The are dealt with in groups of from two to ten in order. Though the work does not include all subjects and things that come under Saiva tantras and though foriegn subjects and things creep in here and there, yet, the book is technicaly a useful one in understanding the technical words and items of Sivagama tantras, to a most extent. As found generally in Siva agamas works, this work also does not escape the archaic forms, constructions and writers' errors. The copying covers 113 pages. P. Neelakanta Sarma 07/01/1959. " The transcription has been checked by A. Krishnan
