Miscellaneous Notes
This text which deals with a tīrtha located near kollapura and kuṭajādri (kollur, karṇaṭka) is, according to the colophons, part of the brahmakaivartapurāṇa; this title seems to be an alternate name of the brahmavaivartapurāṇa in which however the śuklatīrthamāhātmya is not found. The following subjects are dealt with : Placing of śukra, preceptor of demons, into śiva's heart by śiva himself in order to make the former desist from advising the demons on activities dangerous to gods (fol.2a). Penance of vala, son of andhakāsvara at gokarṇakṣetra to get back śukra from śiva (fol. 3b). Visit of śiva as a naked siddheśvara with pārvatī to dārukāvana where the sages, like kaṇva were living, and their vain attempt to destroy śiva (fol. 5a). Kaṇva and others worshiping śiva in liṅga form to get his grace (fol. 8). Description of śuklatīrtha (fols. 4b and 9b)
