This text pertains to the śākta school and its author Kāśinātha intends to teach the ritual to the uninitiated. Hence the title. The bālabodha contains 10 chapters which are enumerated in the colophon : iti bālabodhe daśamastaraṅgaḥ. But the taraṅga-s 5-9 are missing and the scribe has made a statement after the 4th taraṅga that 5 taraṅga-s are not written : upari na likhitaṃ taraṅgapañcakaṃ. As the colophon on the 10th taraṅga is on fol. 51b, 1.2, the matter following (fol. 51b, 1.2 to fol. fol. 60b, 1.7) must probably be treated as a part of some other chapter, since the final colophon of the whole work namely bālabodha is found in for fol. 60b. From the contents list, it is seen that the first chapter deals with puraśacaryā, preparatory rites; the second, with daily duties the third, with pūjānirupaṇa and the fourth, with the conduct of pūjā. The tenth chapther and the following part deal with mūdrā, cakra, mokṣopāya, and śākta kind. (fol.45b-51b). This text contains profuse citations from various sources, many of them are well-known.
