Miscellaneous Notes
This text describes the postures of vāstupuruṣa. These are diagrams (pada) used in rituals. Several āgama texts enumerate them and offer their definations. kāraṇa enumerates 13 types, kāmika 32, aṃśumatkāśyapa 3, aṃ'sumat 7, acintya 50, kiraṇa 24, dīpta 19 and suprabheda 27. Among these, the maṇḍūka diagram is made up of 64 squares obtained by drawing eight lines horizontally and intersecting them vertically by 8 lines. The paramaśāyipada derives its name by the vāstupuruṣa appearing in lying posture on the 81 squares obtained by drawing 9 lines horizontally and intersecting them by 9 vertical lines. The squares in the north-east corner is connected with that in the south-west and that in the north-west with that in the south-east
