Tirukkalirrrruppaṭiyār

The author of this work belongs to low caste, was tested at cidambaram when it was placed before the deity naṭarāja. The stone image of the elephant carved in the steps of the citsabhā, took it and palced it at the feet of the lord. Hence the words kaLi-elephant and paṭi-step occur in the title of this work. It is held that this author belonged to tirukkaṭavūr and was a disciple of tiruviyalūr uyyavanta Teevanāyannār, author of tiruvuntiyār. In 100 verses, this text gives the import of tiruvuntiyār which treats the subject matter of the jñānapāda of the śaivāgama-s. The text is complete. This text has a gloss consisting merely in introducing each verse in a few lines. The murukesa mudaliar's edn. (Madras 1892) mentions the commentator's name as tillaiccirrrrampalavar also known as civappirakācanār. The printed edn. contains a detailed commentary. fol. 38 contains a song stating that śivaprakāśa writes a commentary on Tirukkalirr rruppaṭiyār
