This text lays down the procedure for controlling the evil effects of puṣya, pūrvāṣāḍha and other stars during their course. The word gaṇḍānta means the periodof the particular stars holding their way. This may be for a short time eġ., pāda, first or second and others. This is almost identical with the treatment of this topic on pp. 151-154 of the śāntikusumākara I (Grantha) Madras, 1935

gārgyaḥ। praṇipatya raviṃ vande prāyaścittam anusmaran। sarvāriṣṭavināśāya yaduktaṃ jyotiṣārṇave॥ pitāriṣṭaṃ sutāriṣṭaṃ mā(tā)riṣṭaṃ tathaiva ca। prāyaścittan tadā kuryāt tad doṣaśamanāya vai॥ pūrvāṣāḍhe ca puṣye ca sārpāntamakhapūrvake। revatyaśvayujormadhye jyeṣṭhān te mūlapūrvake॥
